Community Conscious Education©

Description

Course Description:
Rooted in lived experience, ancestral wisdom, and transformative practice, Community Conscious Education© offers a powerful reimagining of how we teach, learn, and lead.

Guided by T4T’s unique Transformational Framework©, Integrated Cohort Learning Model©, and Roadmap to Organizational Success©, this course empowers educators, administrators, and community leaders to embrace whole-brain, heart-centered approaches to decision-making and education.

Rather than relying solely on academic theory or top-down policy, this course amplifies the voices of those living closest to the pain—parents, community members, and Indigenous elders—whose stories hold solutions grounded in resilience, clarity, and profound wisdom.

Instructor:
Shenmiakhu (Shen-mee-Ahoo) Pernebsati is a dedicated teacher educator and trainer whose work is grounded in mentorship, cultural awareness, and transformative pedagogy. With over 15 years of experience in higher education and community leadership, he has trained aspiring educators across disciplines, institutions, and international borders—equipping them to serve with both skill and vision.

Experience: As a School for International Training graduate with a Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), Shenmiakhu has taught and mentored future teachers at the University of San Diego, the University of Delaware, and other academic institutions. He has designed and led intensive teacher training programs, including live, 150-hour TESOL certification courses, helping educators build their technical competencies and their capacity to support learners navigating complex social and educational realities. At Houston Christian University, Shenmiakhu graduated with a double major in Spanish and Public Policy.

Community: A builder of programs and people, Shenmiakhu played a leading role in developing the Health Career Development Institute, a nonprofit initiative that trained high school and community college students in Oakland to become health and wellness educators in their neighborhoods. Through his mentorship, these young leaders engaged in research, public policy, and outreach that led to measurable changes, including a state-level shift in freight traffic legislation to protect the health of local families.

As a college advisor and career counselor, Shenmiakhu has worked closely with students from underserved communities, guiding them toward academic success and careers in teaching, counseling, and community leadership. His approach to teacher training goes beyond classroom techniques; it involves nurturing emotional intelligence, clarity of purpose, and resilience.

Initiation: His affiliations reflect a deep spiritual and intellectual grounding. As an initiate of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., the Order of Prince Hall Freemasonry, and the Dogon traditions of West Africa (Meritah), Shenmiakhu brings ancestral insight and principled leadership into his educational practice. These foundations inform his belief that educators are not merely conveyors of knowledge, but stewards of growth, healing, and legacy.

Whether teaching in the classroom or training educators behind the scenes, Shenmiakhu’s mission is clear: to develop teachers who teach with heart, lead with integrity, and understand the power of their presence in their students’ lives and vice versa.
